Flying too close to the sun,
I lost my way.
Wings on fire
but still dying
to escape
gravity
I landed
only momentarily
in an awkward attempt
to get my bearings.
Then as I leaped again,
you slipped a tether
around my ankle
in a desperate ploy
to bungee me back
to the edge of your world.
Sadly you cannot undo
the fact that I left you
a long long time ago,
and …
radical adjustment,
however sincere,
on your part
is simply
not enough
to overcome
the damage done.
I wish
I could
muster up
all the feelings
I had
for you
in the past,
but…
those days
are gone,
and flying
solo
and much
much too close
to the sun,
I have lost
my way.
