Injustice rules supremely,
In this great big land,
White and Black on equal basis,
Is a real big ask,
As white is nobler birth.
Must the native Old Australians,
In Australia, be ranked as aliens?
They don’t say what
They are gonna do
With their money,
But there’s no need,
They will all end up,
At the Pub.
The voices and the laughter,
All gone, all gone.
The indigenous people cry out!
‘We want hope, not racialism,
Make us equals, not dependants.
We want freedom, not frustration,
Not rebuff, but education,
Self-respect, not resignation.
Let’s forget the old time slavers.
Give us homes, not settlements and missions.’
But the white men just ignored them.
One man took courage
And went right up to the white men.
‘Life is for liberty, ’ he said.
‘And earth was made for all.
The colour of his face
Is no man’s test of worth.
I am a child of the dreamtime people.
I am this land.
And this land is me.
I am Australia.’
They just laughed and turned away, saying
‘Just a black man playing white man games.’
The Indigenous people tried and tried again,
Even though there were still
Hunted down and hated.
When injustice still rules supremely.
The voices and the laughter,
All gone, all gone,
And the tears fall down.
