Beyond Glass
Warm and pleasant we shelter
on this side of the glass
Yet just the other side of a window
the dark night holds the past
laden with its memories and separates
we the living from those
familiar ghosts of our past
Spirits have traveled to the other side
entering realms we can’t fathom
for all though we may try
We know them now only by memory
held fast in our hearts
Through the glass darkly,
nonetheless near present
we may sense their essence
Ancestral traditions
will burn brightly through the season
Our blending heritages
the girdling gifts of many marriages
Theirs are the true Spirits
stirring our Christmas celebrations
Beholden to and blessed by
all who have passed
Beyond those thin panes
of winter frosted window glass
