The house is so quiet, and still,
With the morning still fresh and new,
And the babies are still asleep
While the world is fresh with dew.
As I sit and read, quietly welcoming the day,
I hear a little cry, and I just know I hear Sam say
My name, calling me to him
Ready to start his day.
I pick him up, for he smiles just for me,
And in his big blue eyes, I see
All the love he has to give,
And for me, I start to live.
Then I hear the patter of little feet.
I hear someone call, 'Mee-Mee? '
I reply, 'I am here, waiting just for you!
Come give me a hug, for the world is new, '
And with her tiny hands and arms,
She hugs me tight - -
And says, 'I love you, '
And starts my day just right!
With her sleep smell still clinging to her,
Dragging Ted E. Bear to me,
And sleepy hair tangled in her eyes,
I see the world through Ava's smile.
