I found you so surprised
To find, that I do write.
Yes, e'en before the day
I laughed with you,
Over 'the silly poems
And cloying stories,
Of these our fervid times! '
What else could I have done?
You would have thought me foolish,
Had I so much as hinted;
I sometimes spend the night,
Stargazing on the moon.
How shall I answer now
Your wide-eyed gape,
And make you understand?
You, who cannot even see
Moon fairies, lighting up my trees...
...for poets are fools
(or else are lesser gods!)
not meant to be understood.
