Mark R Slaughter - Where Beauty Reigned

Remote of thought, as still of mist
Or dead of night for secret tryst;
In sense of calm that mind may clear
- No fright or flight nor beast to fear -
I lay atop the autumn dew,
When out of reach appeared a view:
A vista sweet of flowers red
To further charm my dozy head.

But then I chanced a glimpse of sky:
I smiled a smile and in reply,
A cloud stared down with longing gaze
And coasting wayward all of daze,
It threw a storm in gentle mirth
To bring me back upon this earth:
For I was deep in wishful dream
Where beauty reigned in every theme.
