If I could play some blues on a guitar rambling slow
Dancing on the fret board bending notes up high or low
I may not play like Jimi or with Slowhand's silky skills
But I would play a melody to cure you of your ills,
I’d take it from a minor into a major key
And play away your heartaches so you go dancing free.
To dissolve the thoughts that haunt you and tie you in knots
I'll steal an elephant’s memory and sow with forget-me-nots
Lay it on your pillow in a wreath of love and bliss
So when you're fast asleep it's scent you will not miss
And you won't have to remember to call me on the phone
To say the postman's called but still you feel alone,
I'm moving from a minor into a major key
Away from the blues, into sobriety.
