Heads of state from the 21 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies, including the U.S., Russia and China, attended a tree planting ceremony on Tuesday (November 11) in Beijing.
The leaders' summit is the main feature of the APEC meetings. Topping the agenda for this summit are plans to begin looking into establishing a new free trade zone, the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, and an initiative to crackdown on corruption.
Earlier in the morning Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech calling for the speeding up of efforts to establish the free trade zone.
APEC groups 21 economies which account for 40 percent of the world's population, 54 percent of its economic output and 44 percent of trade.
