A surgeon who contracted Ebola while working in Sierra Leone has died of the disease at a Nebraska hospital, medical officials said on Monday (November 17), the second death from the virus out of 10 known cases treated in the United States.
Dr. Martin Salia, a native of Sierra Leone and a permanent U.S. resident, was suffering from advanced symptoms, including kidney and respiratory failure, when he arrived at the Nebraska Medical Center on Saturday (November 15).
Hospital officials had said he was seriously ill when he was airlifted to the United States from West Africa.
