On Sunday Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos put peace negotiations with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) on hold following the disappearance of army General Ruben Diario Alzate, a government worker and a soldier. Santos said negotiations would not be resumed until those captured and freed and the situation clarified. The FARC have not admitted responsibility. Furthermore, questions have been raised -including by Santos himself- of what a general was doing dressed in civilian clothes with only a soldier and a lawyer accompanying him in an area characterized by guerrilla activity.
