(SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) UNIDENTIFIED POLIO WORKER, SAYING:

"Polio is not getting eradicated; only our people are getting wiped out."

Polio workers are often targeted by Taliban militants. They say the campaign to immunize children is a cover for Western spies -- or an effort to sterilize children.

Polio cases hit a 15-year high in Pakistan this year. The disease, which can kill or paralyze a child within hours of infection, has been eradicated everywhere else, except for Nigeria and Afghanistan.
