An Egyptian court has cleared the former president Hosni Mubarak of conspiring to kill protestors in an uprising against his regime in 2011

The trial also cleared him of corruption charges relating to gas exports to Israel at prices below the market level.

86 year-old Mubarak is currently serving a three year sentence on a separate charge of embezzlement of public funds.

When the judge dismissed the charge of conspiring to kill protesters the court erupted in cheers and applause.

Mubarak’s interior minister Habib el-Adly and six aides were also cleared of charges related to the killings.
