Mama Will Be Gone was recorded by Jimmy Joy's St Anthony Hotel Orchestra October 1924 in Dallas. The 78 was released on OKEH label 40251B. This upload is a reply to an upload by KSPM0220s of a Joy Orchestra performing Can't You Understand?. Jimmy Joy's real name was Jimmy Maloney, leader and clarinet player for the band. The band had a long engagement at San Antonio's St Anthony Hotel, one of the city's most elegant. When it opened in 1909, it was considered one of America's most luxurious hotels and also the most technologically advanced. The hotel was home to Clara Bow and the cast of the first picture to win the academy award~Wings.

Three years later, in 1927, Joy's recorded 6 sides for Golden in Los Angeles which were its' best work: Tiger Rag, Wolverine Blues, St Louis Blues, Sobbin Blues, Bugle Call Rag. Can't recall #6.
