With an overwhelming majority, a preliminary vote by Israeli lawmakers sees their parliament dissolved.

...Paving the way for early national elections.

This, a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired his finance and justice ministers from his unraveling government.

Speaking before the big vote, Netanyahu expressed the importance of a strong ruling party:

(SOUNDBITE) (Hebrew) ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU SAYING:

"The coming election is about one question - who will lead the country through the tremendous challenges facing Israel - security, economic, regional. We need a large, experienced ruling party. The Likud is the only party that comes to mind."

Opinion polls show Netanyahu's Likud would emerge as the largest party... allowing him to form what would likely be the most right-wing government in Israel's 66-year history.
