According to officials at the Los Angeles International Airport, scientists have taken the first robot as a passenger on a commercial airline flight in economy class seating.
Even robots have to follow the protocol when it comes to taking an international commercial flight including buying a ticket and going through airport security.
According to a Twitter post by the Los Angeles International Airport, scientists have taken the first robot as a passenger on a commercial airline flight in economy class seating.
Athena, a humanoid robot designed with a head, arms, and legs, was checked in for a Lufthansa airline flight from Los Angeles to Germany on December 15th.
Salt Lake City based electronics company Sarcos manufactured Athena, and the parts were assembled by scientists at the Computational Learning and Motor Control Lab at the University of Southern California.
The project was funded by the United States military Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
Researchers traveled with the over six foot tall robot that weighs about a hundred pounds.
In Germany, Athena will be developed further to have the ability to stand and walk after about a year.
Scientists eventually plan to use Athena to help with disaster relief.
