A quarter of German electricity is still generated from brown coal. And while the German government promotes renewable energy, its fallback plan is still brown coal. It has even issued companies with new exploration permits. One of the big players in the market - Vattenfall, says it's now looking to sell off its German coal operations in favor of developing more renewable sources.
