Seven adorable black puppies that got a rough start to life have all landed in forever homes.
In October, the small dogs were found inside a dumpster in Susanville, California. At that time, they were only about 2 days old – so young that their umbilical cords were still intact and their eyes closed.
Following the troubling discovery, personnel from the Pet Network Humane Society in Nevada were contacted and drove two hours each way to get to the puppies. Shelter employees provided food and gave plenty of attention to the tiny pets that had been left for dead.
Quail Ridge Animal Hospital offered the veterinary care the puppies needed. It wasn’t long before all 7 pups were packing on pounds and healthy enough to be placed up for adoption.
The Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever mixes landed in new homes about a week before Christmas.
The woman who manages the adoption process at the facility, Melissa Shaw stated “I was very fortunate in finding the perfect homes for them where they are going to have a happy and spoiled life.”
While the emotional payback can’t be measured, the cost of actually caring for the puppies accumulated quickly, to the tune of about a grand per dog.
Fortunately, the Pet Network Humane Society was able to raise more than $9,000 through crowdfunding to cover the bills.
