The Navy recently released footage of the Shipboard Autonomous Firefighting Robot, known as SAFFiR. The Naval Research Laboratory developed a team of researchers from Virginia Tech and the University of Pennsylvania to create a humanoid robot that would be able to effectively fight fires on future battleships.

For several years, the U.S. Navy has been developing a humanoid robot designed for a serious duty - fighting fires.

The Navy recently released footage of the Shipboard Autonomous Firefighting Robot, known as SAFFiR. The adult size humanoid robot was developed by the Naval Research Laboratory, along with researchers from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and the University of Pennsylvania to effectively fight fires on future battleships.

Putting out fires on nuclear powered warships is certainly not an easy task. Fires commonly break out in closed-off areas onboard vessels, meaning the smoke is quickly overwhelming.
