Pope Francis made a surprise visit to a shantytown on the outskirts of Rome on Sunday. He was on his way to a working class area of Tiburtina when he asked aides to make a detour.

People living there are mainly from Peru and Ecuador, according to Father Aristide Sana, pastor of the parish.
