This week we're behind the wheel of the all-new 2015 BMW 228i Convertible. With BMW promising more cargo space, greater fuel efficiency and better performance than its 128i predecessor, our expectations are running high for this new sporty ragtop.
Aided by a twin-scroll turbocharger, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine of the BMW 228i Convertible generates maximum power of 240hp between 5,000 and 6,500 rpm, and its peak torque of 255 lb-ft is available all the way from 1,450 to 4,800 rpm, making the car feel more urgent than the numbers might suggest. Mated to an 8-speed sport automatic transmission with steering wheel shift-paddles, the 228i Convertible can get from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds.
Our tester was equipped with the Sport Line appearance package and the Track Handling Package. Track Handling Package includes unique wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport non-runflat tires, Adaptive M Suspension, Sport Steering Rack, and M Sport Brakes.
The 2015 BMW 2 Series Convertible will make its way into US showrooms in early 2015 with an MSRP of $38,850 for the 228i, $40,650 for the 228i xDrive, $48,650 for the M235i, including $950 destination and handling.
