On Tuesday, the two-month-old's father, 34-year-old Anthony Benjamin Grove, was arguing with the child's mother. When the fight escalated, Grove threw the ceramic mug in anger and it ended up striking the infant.
The baby was taken to the hospital for a head injury and died hours later. After detectives learned the mug thrown during the dispute caused the child's injuries, Grove was arrested and charged with not only murder, but also domestic violence and child endangering.
According to a neighbor, Edwin Davis, Grove had been drinking prior to the fatal incident.
Other neighbors said the accused and his girlfriend have a history of fighting and that Grove would sometimes act violently if he had alcohol in his system.
