It sounds as though the notoriously fickle Scottish winter has already begun, and teams have been out climbing some of the most popular routes in the Country despite it only being mid November.
Conditons can vary hugely in Scotland, and when the opportunity to climb is there, you need to take it! This year there were some pretty keen climbers out there and some of the easier classics over in the Ben Nevis and Glencoe area, as well as some of the trickier routes in the Cairngorms were climbed in the first week of November.
As well as coping with the fickle weather conditions, Scottish winter climbers also abide by a strict set of ethics, making route choice even trickier. Any route which requires you to put your axes into turf must be completely frozen so as to avoid damage to the turf, and all the routes can only be climbed when they are snow covered -- there's no dry tooling here. As such the route choices have been limited so far and we're yet to see any major new lines being done, but surely it's only a matter of time.
