Synopsis: This book provides an interpretation of one of the key aspects ofMax Weber's work: the relationship between his political andsociological writings. Weber's sociological studies haveoften been treated as if they were completely separate from hispolitical attitudes and interests, and in general his politicalwritings have remained well-known than his sociologicalwork.
The book contains three main sections. The first of these analysesthe principal concerns underlying Weber's politicalassessment of the prospective development of post-BismarckianGermany. The second examines some of the way in which these viewschannelled his interests in sociology and influences his studies ofcapitalism, authority and religion. Finally, the third main section'reverses' this perspective, showing how hisconceptions of sociology and social philosophy in turn influencedthe evolution of his assessment of German politics.
