A life in hiding is the price two cartoonists have paid for their satirical depictions of the Prophet Mohammed. Swede Lars Vilks and Kurt Westergaard from Denmark are under threat of death from Islamic extremists for their cartoons that outraged many Muslims around the world. The pair have already been the targets of attacks and attempted attacks, which forced them to go into hiding.

The Charlie Hebdo killings and the recent deadly attack in Copenhagen dramatically illustrated the dangers they face. In this edition of Reporter Valerie Zabriskie explores the cartoonists’ stories and asks if the freedom of expression they defended is worth the price they are now paying.
