Thousands of Salvadorans declared their loyalty to and faith in the late Archbishop of San Salvador Oscar Romero, ahead of 35th anniversary of the assassination of the progressive clergyman. On March 24, 1980, Romero was murdered by a right-wing death squad; no one has ever been tried for the crime. The Vatican has declared Romero a martyr and set March 23 as the date for his beatification. teleSUR
