Right-wing surges ahead in French elections

In yesterday's local elections in France, the conservative UMP of former president Nicolas Sarkozy came in first, with 32% of the vote, followed by the extreme right National Front (FN), with 26%. President Francois Hollande's governing Socialist Party came third with 22%. Following the results, the UMP said it would not enter into second round agreements with the FN. teleSUR
