A recent scandal involving a Colombian Constitutional Court judge has affected the image of the country's judicial system. The former head of the court, Jorge Pretelt, who recently resigned his post, is accused of having asked for a US$190,000 bribe to rule in favor of the Fidupetrol oil company. Critics say Pretelt's actions are just the tip of the iceberg and substantial changes in the justice system are needed. The government has called for an urgent investigation into the affair.
