Argentine labor unions have threatened to hold more strikes after a one-day walkout yesterday. The unions are demanding lower taxes and threaten a 36-hour strike unless the government repeals a tax on salaries of over US$1700 a month. Government officials have charged that the strikes are politically motivated and that the unions do not really care about the workers they represent. President Cristina Fernandez said that it is sad to see that those who have a well-paid job forget about other workers and that they go out on strike simply because they have to give a small part of what they earn bor the benefit of those who earn less.
