Russian media reported Tuesday a fire started aboard a nuclear submarine that was undergoing repairs at a shipyard in Russia's northern province of Arkhangelsk.
"The fire started in the ninth section of the sub close to the stern," shipyard spokesman Evgeny Gladyshev told RIA. "All the personnel left the submarine and fire brigades are currently dousing the flames."
Photos posted to Twitter showed smoke billowing out of the 155-meter-long 949 Antei submarine.
The fire reportedly started along the 9th compartment's insulation materials during welding repairs.
There were reportedly no weapons on board at the time of the fire, and the nuclear reactor had already been shut down ahead of the repairs. There were no initial reports of injuries.
Firefighters had allegedly contained the fire by Tuesday afternoon.
