Police in Springfield, Mass. made several drug busts over the weekend, seizing 1,729 bags of heroin, three large plastic bags of cocaine and $12,718 in cash.

"If you deal drugs in Springfield, plan on having a new residence at the Hampden County House of Correction," said Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney.

One of the arrested drug dealers attempted to swallow two bundles -- or 20 bags -- of heroin Thursday afternoon.

Detectives who had been watching Abraham Leon, 44, moved in when they saw him dealing heroin around 1:45 p.m.

Leon shoved two bundles of heroin into his mouth but was unable to swallow them.

"Well unless you're a hippopotamus there is no way anyone could swallow two bundles of dope," Delaney said. "The arresting officer put out his hand and the dealer spit out the twenty bags like a Pez dispenser."

Police arrested Leon and charged him with possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

Police also arrested William Villegas, 28, while he was making a heroin delivery to the Auto Wash in Springfield around 5:30 p.m. Villegas reportedly drove into a police car, trying to escape, but police had boxed him in.

Several hours later, police found Jorge Gomez, 23, smoking marijuana in his car. When they searched the vehicle, they found 33 bags of heroin and roughly $300 in cash.

Delaney said the three arrests were part of the police commissioner's "full court press" on the heroin dealers in Springfield.
