A Palestinian refugee family has adopted two lion cubs from a local zoo and has welcomed them into their home in Gaza's southern strip.
The cubs' owner, Saad Eldin al-Jamal, 54, purchased the two-month-old lion babies from the cash-strapped Rafah zoo, the Telegraph reports.
Al-Jamal plans to raise the animals in his house in the Al-Shabora refugee camp, alongside his family who have named the pair Alex and Mona.
Although he faces a difficult task, he says he is aware that the cubs will become increasingly dangerous as they grow older.
"When they are four months old, they will start to be dangerous; by the age of 5 or 6 months they will be very dangerous. In one month, they will start being kept in a cage for our own safety," he says.
Al-Jamal hopes to one day showcase the lions at a cafe as a local attraction.
