A Virginia lawmaker who was recently convicted in a teen sex case may still attend to his delegation duties while serving time in the clink.
In August of last year when he was still an attorney, Delegate Joseph Dee Morrissey entered into a relationship with his receptionist, who at the time was 17 years old, a minor by Virginia statute. Their relationship was consensual.
Morrissey kept nude photos of the girl to “help him fantasize about their next encounter,” and was busted when he sent the picture to a friend who squealed to the cops.
He entered an Alford plea, thereby pleading guilty to the crime but maintaining his innocence, and now has to serve a sentence under which he can still work as a legislator during the day and spend the rest of his time in jail for the next six months.
If and when the firebrand politician decides to give politics a rest because of his jailhouse commitments, we’ll let you know.
