America has held its 2014 mid-term elections and this year the Republican elephants trounced the Democratic donkeys, taking back the U.S. Senate for the first time since the 2006 elections.
Voters also had their say on a “social” issue or two. Washington, DC and Oregon voted to legalize recreational marijuana, while Florida, bizarrely, voted no to even “medicinal” weed.
The minimum wage will be hiked in Nebraska and Arkansas, but the cheers soon subsided after those affected realized they are minimum wage workers living in Nebraska and Arkansas.
The Senate’s new Republican rulers have pledged to end Washington’s divisive politics and work with a president they detest, as long as he becomes more reasonable and agrees to each and every one of their demands.
Republicans also kept control of the House of Representatives, a U.S. government institution experts say has no known function.
How will this affect the rest of Obama’s term?
Who knows? Who cares?
Let’s get back to REAL issues, like will Rick survive Season 5 of The Walking Dead? Stay tuned!
