Woodcut Messages from Nampoong-ri
Artist Lee Yun-yub held the exhibition "Woodcut Messages from Nampoong-ri" at the Trunk Gallery. Leading an eco-friendly life in Nampoongri, Gyeonggi-do Province, Lee turns his everyday life into artworks. To him, his works are the means of communication and the medium that connects him with the world. The gigantic piece "Crow ? On Mt. Hallasan" is only comprised of the color black, however, the multifarious wood grain makes the piece all the more diverse. The colored woodcut piece "A Man Who Goes to Work at Night" depicts a salaryman as an owl, while "Rainy Day," made of multiple pieces of wood assembled by screws, displays the artist's distinct way of working. Lee's works are not very sophisticated or decorative. However, his pieces convey the stories of our lives in a witty and warm way. Let's take a glimpse at his world through his artworks.
