Maine trooper Douglas Cropper was driving on Interstate 295 on Friday at around 6:15 a.m. when he pulled over a car for traveling over the speed limit.
After taking the driver's documents he returned to his vehicle to write him a ticket. Dashcam footage published by the Maine State Police Department shows Cropper finding the driver unresponsive. According to reports, his head was tilted back and his mouth was open.
The video shows Cropper trying to wake the man up, but when the man turns blue from lack of oxygen he decides to pull him out of the car, right there on the road and give him CPR.
A nurse who was driving on the Interstate at that time saw what was happening, and stopped by to help the cop.
Eventually Portland rescue workers arrived at the scene and administered heroin-effect reversing drugs to the driver.
According to reports, after being transported to the hospital, it emerged that this was the man's second heroin overdose in a week.
