Five Georgia Southern University students died early on Wednesday after their cars were involved in a chain-reaction crash.
The accident occurred on Interstate 16 near mile marker 140.
At around 5:45 AM on Wednesday, a crash about a mile up the highway, caused the traffic to slow down.
The students were traveling in two different cars, a Toyota corolla and a Ford Escape, when an approaching tractor-trailer failed to slow down, the Alpharetta-Milton Patch reported.
The tractor-trailer plowed into the SUV, then rolled over the other car, which burst into flames. It eventually came to an halt when it crashed into a tanker truck.
Three more vehicles were involved in the accident, WSBTV reported.
Four students died at the scene while the other one died once at the hospital. Three people were injured in the accident.
An investigation by the Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is still underway to determine the cause of the accident and eventual charges.
