A 25-year-old Californian man who robbed a bank was arrested by Merced police Saturday afternoon after officers caught him stuffing fistfuls of cash into his pants just meters from the crime scene.
The moron, identified as Shawn Lee Canfield, targeted a Chase bank inside a Raley's grocery store on G Street and E. Yosemite Avenue in Fresno. He handed the teller a note demanding cash. After the teller complied, giving him $2,748, he took off.
Officer Craig McKeeman, who responded to the scene, caught Canfield shoving stolen money down to his pants while Canfield was walking on G Street near El Portal Drive. He’d forgotten to bring a bag.
After being identified by the clerk as the robber, Canfield was taken back to the police headquarters, where most of the money fell out of his pant legs while walking up stairs. A total of $2,414 was recovered.
As Canfield was being questioning, the remainder of $334 fell out of his pant legs after he was asked to stand up.
According to investigators, Canfield confessed to the robbery, saying he robbed the bank to get money so he could go see his mommy out in Colorado.
Canfield was charged with robbery and burglary and booked into the Merced County Jail.
