A 43-year-old man went on a stabbing rampage at a primary school in Shiyan City in China’s Hubei Province on Monday (September 1), killing at least one teacher and three young students, according to local media reports.

China’s CCTV reported that the man’s motive for the attack was because his daughter was not allowed to re-enroll in school because she did not finish her summer assignments.

He entered the school at around 10:20 a.m. on Monday and went up to the fifth floor, according to the New York Times. There, he proceeded to force his way into a classroom, where he began stabbing students and the teacher.

The teacher and three students later died of their wounds, while multiple other children suffered severe injuries, according to local reports. The man then jumped to his death from the fifth floor, local reports said.

This is not the first time a stabbing incident has occurred at a Chinese school. Another stabbing incident at a Hubei school in May resulted in eight injured students at a primary school, while 23 children were injured in a separate stabbing spree in December of 2012, according to Reuters.
