After getting a last minute heads up about the upcoming visit of high-ranking government officials, Chinese contractors gave an athletic track an incredibly stupid facelift.

The track at a sports center in the far northeastern province of Heilongjiang originally featured normal curved corners, but over time they had become worn out. So when the impromptu visit of senior Communist Party leaders was announced, a no doubt red-faced stadium official claims they painted right angles because it’s faster than painting curves.

So despite wasted money and uselessness of the revamped design, the track was repainted. We doubt this cost-saving approach will catch on anytime soon.
