Sullivan was pulled over by an officer patrolling Lookout Mountain. When the officer returned to his squad car, Sullivan sped away along with a female juvenile accomplice. The two managed to evade the officer’s pursuit and 30 minutes later carjacked a woman driving a Subaru. They wrecked the Subaru and carjacked a man in a white pickup, who ran for the bushes when Sullivan opened fire.
Sullivan then wrecked his newly acquired pickup and fled the scene on foot. Police enlisted the help of a local news station helicopter to help track the suspects. Armed with an assault rifle and handgun, Sullivan was on his own now as the girl ditched him and surrendered herself to police.
Sullivan checked for keys in dump trucks parked in a parking lot but didn’t find any. His next stop was somebody’s home. After looking for keys in their truck outside, he made his way into the home, occupied by two people who had no idea that Sullivan had entered until they heard him rip through their garage door in an SUV.
After immobilizing the SUV while attempting to drive over rough terrain, Sullivan continued on foot once again. He stood on the highway, appearing to hijack yet another vehicle. Officer Fred Haggett arrived on the scene driving a police motorcycle and arrested the Sullivan. No injuries were reported over the course of the two-hour crime spree.
