For the second time in three months, two planes at Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport came close to colliding in mid-air before air traffic controllers averted the potential disaster, according to a report by the Houston Chronicle.
A Singapore Airlines 777 flew within 200 feet vertically and within about half a mile horizontally of a Delta Airlines A320 Airbus at around 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Federal Aviation Administration rules say that aircrafts must remain at least a half-mile vertically and three miles horizontally.
"An air traffic controller noticed the deviation and issued traffic alerts and instructions to the pilots of both aircraft," said the Federal Aviation Administration's Lynn Lunsford.
The FAA it still investigating the closest proximity reached between the two planes and the underlying cause of the incident.
