The Japanese automaker Subaru of America is recalling over 600,000 of its newer vehicles due to possible brake failure.
According to Reuters, the company is recalling 660,238 vehicles registered in 20 cold-weather U.S. states, including Connecticut, Delaware and New York. Affected vehicles are the 2009-2013 Forester, the 2008-2011 Impreza and the 2008-2014 Impreza WRX/STI, the 2005-2009 Outback and the 2005-2009 Legacy.
Residents in these cold-weather states typically use salt to melt ice and snow on roads during winter. The company discovered that it was possible for the salty water to splash onto the rear brake lines of these vehicle that could cause corrosion, leading to a fluid leak and make the brakes less effective.
Subaru announced it would inspect all of the affected vehicles to check for fluid leaks and coat anti-corrosion wax around susceptible areas, Autoblog reported.
