Brenda Cruz was driving with her son, Samuel, on Saturday, when what may have seemed like a mundane drive turned wild.

The two were on Interstate 77 in North Carolina when a white sedan in the lane to their right caught their attention.

Samuel says at first he thought it was a dummy, but then realized a man was gripping at the back windscreen, trying to break through it.

The family says a woman was driving the car, and that an infant was also in the vehicle, in a car seat.

The car was travelling at about 55 miles per hour as the man struck at the glass and tried to peel it back. He eventually succeded and climbed in.

Police received calls from multiple witnesses who saw the incredible scene, but state troopers said they don't have enough evidence yet to investigate.

The authorities believe the people know each other and it may have been a domestic incident. If the people are tracked down, police said the driver will be culpable.
