New Jersey police are looking for a Salem City woman seen in a cell phone video brutally beating another woman while the victim's 2-year-old son pleaded her to stop.
The assailant is identified as Latia Harris, 25, who may be an employee at a McDonald's restaurant on East Broadway. Harris is seen in the video wearing a red shirt and black pants, which resemble a McDonald's uniform.
In the video, the 27-year-old victim is first seen pushing her son in a stroller, when Harris approaches and begins shouting at her. Harris is then seen pummeling the victim onto the ground, saying the victim had caused her to almost lose her job. The young mother was punched and kicked in the face a dozen times, causing her to bleed profusely.
The child is can be seen kicking the attacker several times. Harris is then heard threatening to kick him in the face, too.
At least a dozen bystanders watched the attack unfold, with cell phones in hand to film it all. No one in the video is seen helping the victim.
Salem Chief of Police John J. Pelura III told the press that, "There is a moral and social breakdown in the fabric of our society which is clearly evident when a woman gets pummeled in broad daylight in front of her child while a dozen people pull out their phones to record the incident instead of calling for help."
He added, "there is so little regard for human life — by the actor and the bystanders."
