Harrison Ford was medevaced to a hospital today after the door of the Millennium Falcon fell on him on the set of the new Star Wars movie.

The actor, 71, was starting work on the Star Wars: Episode VII at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire when the hydraulic door of his character's spaceship fell on him and knocked him to the ground.

Ford suffered chest and ankle injuries and was taken by stretcher to a medical helicopter, which airlifted him to John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford. It is believed that he fractured his ankle and is awaiting the results of tests to determine the extent of his chest injuries, although it is believed they are not serious.

A spokesman for Disney, which bought the rights to the Star Wars franchise from George Lucas, said filming of Star Wars: Episode VII will continue while Ford recuperates.

The film, in which Ford reprises his role as Han Solo along with Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), is being directed by JJ Abrams and scheduled for release in 2015.
