A 51-year-old former Chinese soccer player Lee Min Keong (李明強), from China's northeastern province of Liaoning (遼寧省), went out to watch the game between Spain and the Netherlands around midnight on the weekend. The former goalkeeper's extreme enthusiasm triggered a heart attack. Lee's friend rushed him to hospital but he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
A 25-year-old fan from the city of Suzhou, near Shanghai, was found not breathing in front of his computer by his parents after Friday's Chile—Australia match up. The doctor said the young man had stayed up late for several days in a row and blamed chronic exhaustion for his death.
