Manuel Quino Tejeda, one of four survivors of Monday's deadly Mexico bus crash, has told how he helped others to flee the burning bus.
En route to Mexico City, the bus was travelling along the Tinaja-Cosoleacaque highway in the early hours.
Only four passengers who were sitting in the back survived the crash. Manual Quino Tejeda was talking to his friend Lucero Ridas Pérez when the bus slammed into a trailer truck. According to Tejeda, the bus did not stop immediately and still ran for some time after the collision.
The pair looked to the front of the bus, which was already enveloped in thick smoke.
Tejeda tried unsuccessfully to open the windows using his fists. He then succeeded in opening the bus' emergency hatch at the third attempt. He helped the three other survivors get out of the hatch before climbing out himself. The four of them then jumped off the bus before it burst into flames.
One of the survivors was badly burnt.
