It's no secret that Facebook is on a roll with acquisitions. First Instagram, then Whatsapp and now virtual reality startup Oculus for 2 billion dollars.
The Oculus Rift VR system is praised all over for being the best VR system that anyone has ever seen, even though it's still in the prototyping phase.
But the question on the internet's mind at the moment is 'How the heck does this all fit in Facebook's program?
Anyone who is very vocal on the interwebs when it comes to this sort of tech, is giving the deal a pass right now, because while the company gave us the promise of having all kinds of virtual reality wet dreams, most people can't stand Facebook's insistence of notifying us about every. Little. Thing.
Even the developer of Minecraft decided to stop development for the Augmented Reality platform in light of this new development.
Some speculate that it could be key to Facebook becoming more like Second Life, a popular virtual reality game. Perhaps one day, there will be a Facebook augmented reality world where instead of posting to your wall, you can talk to your friends in virtual worlds. Then again better have Adblock VR installed before you dive in; who knows how many times you'll see virtual skywriting for Candy Crush or Farmville in there.
