In this video, Dr Sim discusses what is vaginal discharge, when is it normal, when is it abnormal, and how to tell them apart.

Vaginal discharge can be part of the normal cleaning process of the body. But sometimes, it is caused by infection or even cancer.

Dr Sim will also discuss the different types of vaginal infections that can cause abnormal vaginal discharge.

They can be classified into 2 groups: Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI/STD) and non-Sexually Transmitted Infections (non-STI/STD).

Infections like Trichomoniasis, Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea are considered sexually transmitted infections, while infections such as candidiasis and bacterial vaginosis are not considered sexually transmitted.

If you have noticed a change in your vaginal discharge or worried that it isn’t normal, see our doctors for further advice. If needed, swab tests can be performed to confirm the presence of any infections. Last but certainly not least, the majority of these infections are easily treatable.
