Vietnam coal mine fire: 6 killed, 1 injured

A fire in an underground coal mine killed six workers in Vietnam's Quang Ninh Province on Wednesday (January 15).

The fire erupted at an underground coal mine tunnel owned by Uong Bi Coal Co. Initial investigation suggested that the fire was caused by a gas explosion.

Six miners were killed in the blaze. One managed to escape with injuries. Authorities have decided to pay 6 million Vietnamese Dong in compensation to each victim.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
